You may find this hard to believe, but yes, it is very true. There are many search engines out there other than Google. Assuming you have not just fainted by this life changing and heart altering news, I will go on to explain about why some of these search engines are in fact still running strong in the competition against Google, and have survived so long against such a powerful and masterful foe.
When I first gained access to the internet, I was amazed about the freedom it gave to me. I was simply astonished by the features of an Internet compatible computer, and had absolutely no idea what to search for, or where to even start searching for that matter. One of the things I used my Computer for before gaining access to the Internet was simple School work. School work and Video Games, the typical primary school boy's computer! Little did I know that there was a more in depth and detailed research resource sitting right around the corner without me even noticing that it was there? I was bored with what Encarta had to offer, there was nothing new and nothing to help me get better grades and levels in my future assignments that I hadn't already implemented in my projects. So what was next? As a child with NO knowledge on Internet usage whatsoever, what would be the next step? Could I just 'Google It' as the internet refers it as to get my answer? Would I immediately suddenly grasp the ability to use google.com to find my answers?
No, contrary to popular belief, the common answer was NOT to immediately 'Google It' and find out what my options were. I was on an Internet Service Provider which at the time was known as Blueyonder. How was I to know? I was 8 years old. I had just about given up, and the next day when I got to school I actually told one of my teachers and a few of my friends that I had gotten the Internet, but had no idea what it was for. A teacher of mine then gave me a 'Link' to a website called 'Ask Jeeves' and told me it was a search engine, and that by using a search engine I would be able to find many research sources for my projects no matter what subject I was studying.
That night I went in and typed this new website into my address bar, and up popped a little servant man by the name of Jeeves who asked me
