Christian understanding of your purpose on earth...

Many people ask, "Why was I born?" That question, perhaps, is asked by most of us because we need a sense of purpose, a sense of belonging, a sense of knowing who and what we are. This is a question which has no one answer, however in the context of knowing God, Christ, and the Word of God, the answer is simplified and made clearer. We were made to glorify God, and in that light living becomes easier. What does it mean to glorify God, and how can we glorify God?

To glorify means to give praise, magnify, or amplify. As a Christian who knows God, we will want to spread the good news of His salvation everywhere. We will want others to share in the joy of knowing that our sins have been washed away by the meritous blood of Jesus. We will want others to understand that their lives can be ones of happiness and fulfillment by following Christ. We will want to become servants for Christ.

Magnifying God is living a life that can be looked upon as a "good life". Setting good examples, being kind, being of service to our fellowmen, lifing up the fallen, and cheering the weary is just a part of magnifying God. Everyone is being watched by someone. Sometimes it is just a child, or a teenager, or even an adult who is watching us. But those who watch are often looking for good role models by which they may pattern their lives. In this spotlight, a Christian can magnify the Lord. Letting Jesus shine out of us is something we can do if Jesus abides in us.
We can also magnify the Lord by praising him and telling others what great things He has personally done for us.

Praising God is one of our purposes on earth as a Christian. When we praise God in the good times and the bad times, people begin to realize that our lives are not shattered easily through adversity. We can be strength to others in their times of crises, and we can praise God by faith. Singing, testifying, and giving thanks to God brings joy and gladness to our lives and the lives of others.

Because we have only one life, we must use it wisely. Our life on earth glorifying God will be just a foretaste of what it will be in eternity. The reward of the Christian is to see Jesus' face, and invite others to do so also. There is full joy in serving Jesus. This is the Christian's purpose on earth.
