Is it a wonder the military is having a difficult time recruiting? The all volunteer concept has been and will continue to be a success. The groups and individuals that affect the ability of the military to recruit always raise their ugly heads when they believe; the opportunity for recognition and promotion of their cause is optimal. We are again in an optimal window of opportunity and they are again spewing their hatred.
Everyone who lives in our society should understand the military does not start wars, military members are not baby killers, military members are not the scourge of society, they do not serve because they cannot do anything else, and they are not criminals.
What they are is you! They are Americans who believe in the same concepts, have the same hopes and dreams, enjoy the freedom and rights afforded by a free society, want to live long happy lives, and consider the military their job. They just happen to have a job whose main job description is to protect you and the interests of America.
Most American's support our forces and understand the danger involved in serving. However, there are groups who hate America and the military in particular. They fight to keep the military out of schools and universities because they claim the military discriminates, the military takes advantage of the poor and impoverished, that civil rights are forfeited upon joining, or a hundred other claims. Unfortunately, they are the dog that barks the loudest and therefore, gets the attention. These people have every right to voice their opinions. What I have a problem with is their voicing their opinions when our military forces are in harm's way. I believe these people are aiding the enemy and cause more harm than caused by the enemy. They have the biggest influence on why the military has a hard time recruiting. And, they will shoulder the largest responsibility and be the first to yell the loudest, proclaiming their love of the military, when we can no longer provide the forces we need to support their high standard of living.
As long as there has been recorded history, there has been a need for a strong military. We have a strong military. I will fight these groups and individuals who try to limit our ability to defend ourselves and those who think our men and women in uniform are cannon fodder for their cause(s).
My opinion-because you do not have the intestinal fortitude to serve, you do not have the right to demean and criticize those who do, or, as important, pretend to be a subject matter expert on the military to those who want to serve when eligible. Intelligence dictates, and contrary to your way of thinking, our youth are intelligent, and once presented both sides can make an informed decision.
If you want to ban anyone, try banning those who send our military to do their dirty work, ban those who do harm to our troops by giving comfort to the enemy, ban those who leave the impression this country hates its military and the people who serve, and ban those cowards who hate the military because they are weak and allow fear to control their lives.
Leave the military alone. They provide a greater service to this country than any other organization or group. Compare the numbers of so called underprivileged who succeed, have greater opportunity for advancement, and obtain educational degrees most never thought they could receive. Compare that to the general sector. The military is you! Get used to it, if you cannot support them, do not hinder their ability to do the job you hired them to do. This country is an all volunteer society, the success of the all voluntary military is a given.
