A classic gimlet has only two ingredients-gin and lime juice. Simple and delicious, this recipe really puts the spotlight on a quality gin. But what if you don't care for gin? What if vodka, or even tequila, is your favorite liquor? Well, then I have a gimlet recipe for you as well.
First I will start with the most common recipe:
1.5 ounces of quality gin or vodka
1/2 ounce of fresh-squeezed lime juice
Lime peel
Mix the liquor and the lime juice vigorously in a mixing glass with cracked ice. Once cold and combined, pour into a chilled Old Fashioned or rocks glass. Twist the lime peel over the drink and drop it into the glass to garnish. This same recipe can be made with Rose's lime juice to substitute for the fresh, and for those who prefer a sweeter drink, add 1 teaspoon of powdered sugar when mixing.
For a more complexly-flavored gimlet, try a Bridgetown Gimlet:
1/4 ounce of Falernun or to taste (Falernun is a flavoring syrup made from sugar, almonds, ginger, lime, and spices.)
1/4 ounce of fresh-squeezed lime juice
1/4 ounce of Rose's lime juice
1.5 ounces of premium vodka (Ketel One and Grey Goose make excellent gimlets)
Mix all of the ingredients with cracked ice in a shaker and pour into a chilled Old Fashioned glass. This drink can be garnished with the traditional lime peel, or with a more mild orange peel.
Lastly, if tequila is your liquor of choice, you don't have to be left out of having a delicious gimlet. Tequila, especially blue agave tequila, makes an exquisite gimlet. Here's the super simple recipe
1.5 ounces of tequila
1 ounce of Rose's lime juice
Lime wedge
Pour the tequila and the lime juice into an Old Fashioned class half filled with ice cubes. Stir well and garnish with the lime wedge.
Now that you know how simple and versatile gimlets can be, you can begin serving them as cool and refreshing summertime drinks. Your guests will be impressed.
