Getting rid of spyware

Spyware, viruses and adware........ These are truly the bane of existence on the web today. These nasty little programs that install themselves into your computer are not just a nuisance - they are also a direct threat to your personal and online security, since the aim of many of these programs is to steal your personal information - info such as web site user names and passwords, credit card numbers, banking information, etc. If you have any of these in your computer, then you must make sure that they are removed, and then once they have been removed, you must avoid ever getting any more in your computer if possible.

1) "How do I know if my computer has been infected with spyware, adware or viruses?"

Usually you will become aware of an infection because:
A) the computer is running extremely slow,
B)you are getting all sorts of pop up ads regardless of where you are surfing on the net C)your web browsers home page has been "hijacked" to an unfamiliar web site and if you change it, the unwanted home page comes back on its own.
D)You notice new software on your computer that you do not recall installing. (A good example is WinFixer)

2) "How do I get this junk out of my computer?"
Well, the process of removing spyware, adware, and viruses can become very complex because the writers of the malicious software know that you are going to try to remove it with one of the big name anti-virus solutions such as McAfee, Norton etc, and they do everything they can to prevent removal via routine methods.

First, lets start by downloading a few essential tools and programs:

1) CCleaner from http://www.ccleaner.com/downlo ad/
2) Avg Antispyware and AVG Antivirus from http://free.grisoft.com
3) SuperAntiSpyware from http://www.superantispyware.co m/superantispywarefreevspro.ht ml
4) Spybot S & D from http://www.safer-networking.or g/en/mirrors/index.html
5) Spyware Blaster from http://www.javacoolsoftware.co m/sbdownload.html
6 IE SpyAd - read about it and download from http://www.bleepingcomputer.co m/tutorials/tutorial53.html

If you can not get on the internet with your computer because it is so infected and messed up, then you may need to use a frinds PC to download the programs mentioned above. See if you can save them to a recordable CD, a thumb drive (ie memory key) or an external hard disk drive, and then transfer them to your PC.

Try to install the programs with the PC running in normal mode if possible, but if you can't then you may need to boot the PC into a special diagnostic
