A green car is like an overpass. It makes it easy for immigrants to pass over the massive traffic jams that hinder their progress in America. New hologram and encoding technologies invented to curb the fake green card market have fallen like players in a poker game to cheap internet templates, high-quality printers, superior card-pressing machines, fake green card websites and fraudulent green card "chop shops."

Fake green cards these days are first-rate forgeries, as sophisticated as the elegance of a diamond ring. If even law enforcement agencies find it hard to identify a fake green card, what's an ordinary person to do? Although it is difficult for the untrained eye to spot a fake green card, you can look for certain features.

Sometimes, a green card forger slips up.

Does the background color of the green card seem pale or faded? Are words misspelled? Are their too many spaces between words? Do words appear in colors different from those on a regular green card? Does the card seem unevenly cut?

These are just a few of the simple mistakes you can watch for. Just keep in mind that for every fake green card detected, thousands of others go undetected.
