Ah, Michael Moore... a man of great controversy. Definitely one of the most interesting filmmakers that our time has seen. With many great documentaries under his belt such as: "Roger and Me", "Bowling For Columbine", and "Fahrenheit 9/11", it would only seem probable for him to just keep trying harder and going further to prove his point in today's society. I myself am a Michael Moore fan, not the biggest, but a fan none the less!
His latest trial in cinema, "SiCKO" is nothing short of brilliant! In this documentary, Mr. Moore chronicles the tales and strives of America's declining health care system. We all knew that this system has been going down the tubes for some time, but the extent that is shown in this film leaves you with such an overwhelmingly creepy feeling that you just have to stop and think to yourself, "Why?". Michael Moore's "SiCKO" pulls at every emotion. The victims of the health care system make you cry and feel bitter towards the conniving health insurance companies, while Moore throws in his usual twist of comedy with his interventions into helping the victims (he takes ill workers from 9/11 down to Guantanamo Bay on a boat and starts yelling on a megaphone). We also hear unexpected musical accompaniments, with the likes of: Tim Burton's "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and Cat Stevens' little number from the classic "Harold and Maude".
All in all, Mr. Moore does prove his point! Pointing fingers at politicians, greed, 9/11, and of course... Bush, but he surprises us with a disturbing audio tape from Richard Nixon that in my opinion makes Bush seem a little less, um... at fault. And with what he exposes about insurance companies is still turning my stomach. This film is one that everyone should see, because we all need to be aware of what is being taken from us every moment that we are not!
