Businesses you can start with little or no capital investment

First decide what your business will set out to achieve. Will it be a home-based business aimed at generating a steady income or do you aim to establish a company which can grow, take on employees, and which you may eventually sell for a handsome sum?

Let's imagine your ambition and resources are limited. You have a little cash. You have some time, maybe whilst the children are at school. Or you are a part time student. Perhaps you have been made redundant ? You have lots of imagination and are well organized. But what can you do ?

As with any career move start out by thinking about what you like doing, what your skills are, and how you will turn this into a product or service which enough people will want to buy to make the venture worth your while. Whatever you decide to do, starting your own business will be a learning experience. You may have little cash which you will need to use wisely to cover start up costs. You will also have to invest time and effort in personal development, which could include learning new skills which are the secret to business success. The key business skills are marketing and sales. Fortunately, the Internet makes it possible for a home based business to reach a global customer base. You may already be a computer wizard but if not , buy one and learn how to use it. Your local college is sure to have many computer related courses. Up grade your skills and learn how to appeal to your customer by adding value.

Stuck for an idea ? To get you started, how about photography, cookery, coaching or home tutoring, creative writing all of which have minimal start up costs and the potential for a rewarding career.
