Code of conduct standards for businesses: Office ethics

by MsRose

First and foremost, before clocking in, you must leave your personal life at home. Train yourself to clock in with an open and clear mind starting your shift.

These are a few ideas that can help an office environment work well together.
Suggestions:
When there is any concern over the below mentioned issues, Try having a meeting to discuss it and find ways to work together to resolve them.
Offer comments everyday. Try this: For every one negative, give three positive. (All work related comments) If you do not agree with something, take it in consideration and think it over later. You may be able to relate to what was said previously. Take in consideration what others think of your work and behavior. You would want the same in return.

*Always remember that not everything is personal. It is a professional environment and you must remain focused on your tasks and completing them.

I guarantee there are times where you or your co-workers are going to have a bad day.

How do you handle it without making the atmosphere tense?
-Humor: Make sure it is not directed negatively towards someone at work.
-Calmly talk to the person you have an issue with. If this does not work, you may need to seek a third-party or your boss to help resolve the issue. Normally, having someone from upper management is ideal as to not have hearsay become an even worse issue later.
-Go to the restroom and try to relax in a timely fashion. Being efficient at work is most important and you do not want to fall behind.
-Try resting a little during lunch break instead of chatting up with co-workers. Unless they are the ones who can help you feel better.

Attire at work:
We live in a world where fashion changes every five minutes. If you are not wearing a uniform, take caution.
-If you are a female and determined to do your job, you want to avoid wearing something that is a distraction. Presenting an idea to your co-workers and boss will not get across if they are not focused on your speech or props.
-If you are a male, try to maintain a clean cut look. Again, people cannot focus if you have a bushy beard that is not neatly trimmed for example.

Hygiene:
-Keep yourself clean and fresh.
-If you must wash your face on a break, then do so. Brush your teeth.
-Wash your hands. You would not want someone to avoid shaking your hands.

When there is too much talking going on and not enough work:
-Specific assignments are not finished on time.
-Something is forgotten and the boss is late due to you.

Gossiping:
Anything said in a work place whether true or not true can be hurtful to someone.
-Avoiding this helps keep a healthy environment for everyone. They can do their job peacefully.
-If you really must know something, wait until your break and go directly to the person instead of everyone else.

Eating while working:
Most offices have computers or some type of expensive electronic equipment.
-Try to avoid having liquids around the equipment. It is very costly to replace.
-Eating causes you to have particles on your hands and mouth that can fall inside keyboards and other equipment. This may not cause a problem immediately, but may later.
-If you are allowed to snack while working, aim for healthier foods. Especially if you are concerned over the potential personal appearance of yourself.

I hope this may help your environment happy, healthy, and most important-Professional.
