Being a former Knick fan (i.e. the Ewing, Oakley, Starks era), it was exciting to see the team head down a different road. Any change from their current situation, minus selling the team to Vancouver, has to be viewed as a step in the right direction. That being said, it wasn't an extremely thrilling move by any means. This didn't stir the NBA waters as much as analysts made it seem. There were more ripples in David Stern's third chin when he announced the trade. It was big for the simple reason that loyal Knick fans were starving for a shakeup and they got one. Whenever two big names are included in a trade, it always brings on the oohs and aahs. Even if the Franchise has disappeared from the face of the Earth since taking off a Rockets jersey and Randolph was posing as a superstar using his less than mediocre teammates as a clever disguise, these types of trades will always create a buzz. Let's face it, everyone who suffered through the NBA finals knows the league could use a little publicity right now. For right now, the move was a good one because it put some much needed space between Francis and Starbury and Isiah picked up a small forward who is an efficient scorer on the block. It also has given Knick fans some much needed hope for the future, even if it turns out to be false hope.
This does not mean there won't be issues in the locker room. How will all those egos in the starting lineup mesh? You have a point guard who would rather shoot fade-away trays than pass to an open man on the block, a center who worries more about scoring 35 than concentrating on boxing out, and now a small forward who would rather feed himself the rock than feed starving children. This situation may cause some friction unless the ref decides to allow three game balls on the court. Isiah will also be sweating bullets by the end of the season if the team doesn't make at least the eight seed in the weak Eastern Conference. Isiah will need to make many more baby steps before Knicks are sitting pretty.
