All original authored works should be paid for if displayed to the general public in any form and money is earned in whatever way by the exhibitor. Look at the music industry whenever a track is played in whatever medium the original artists gets a royalty fee. Royalties may not be large amounts of money per play/buy but they sure do add up if your work becomes popular just look at The Rolling Stones. They are at number one in the use of their music in film, TV, and they make sure they get paid each and every time people hear their tracks. As a company The Rolling Stones was given a front page feature review in Fortune magazine, clearly a case of creativity well managed. Now why should the internet be any different from real world economics, copyright and royalty laws? Authors should be paid for every single legitimate view or reading of their works. Now more than ever writers as artists are beginning to gain control over the publishing of their work, something that all artists as the creative source should have had in the first place. To not be at the mercy of publishers, record companies or even movie studios should be the goal of all artists and the internet is making this slowly possible. Look at Google Analytics if you can garner so much information about your own web site traffic, what if you could track every article you have ever written online in the same manner and be able to legally demand payment based on these statistics as legal evidence internationally recognised and independently verifiable. The backbone of these kind of systems are already in place it's up to us to see them being turned to our benefit. After all it's the writer who writes and the singer who sings, why cede control of your own creativity to others who actually rely on it to turn their buck.
