How to deal with driving phobia

The best way to deal with driving phobia is head on- don't try to skirt the issue- approach it with a steely resolve and determination to overcome- or else buy a bus pass.

Try to identify exactly what it is that is at the core of the phobia- a fear of crashing? Fear of hurting others? Work it out, then try to remove it from the equation until you build up some confidence.

Best place to start is in a comfortable, familiar environment- such as in your suburban street, or in the country. If you are in the city, try a controlled environment such as an enclosed track where everyone has to go in the same direction.

Starting in an Automatic car will make it easier- one less thing to think about. Start with someone who you are comfortable with in the passenger st, try to remove all distractions such as music, un necessary people etc. Focus on the road and the car- dont allow any other thoughts to enter your mind.

If this doesn't work, go see a therapist.
