Wow this is a good question. And everyone thinks that they have the answer, and so did I when I went through chemotherapy. But to my surprise I didn't.
I was told before I started taking my treatments that I would be losing my hair, and me being a person with the thought that hair grows back, didn't think anything of it. So anyway I decided to cut my shoulder length hair to an inch long so that it would not be too noticeable. So anyway I had 1 treatment and didn't lose any hair. But then after the second treatment I was not as ready for it as I had thought. I had gotten into the shower and as I put the shampoo in my hands to wash my hair, I went to lather and I felt a strange feeling on my hands so I took my hands down and two hands with hair, anyway I shook my hands and again went to lather and again two handfuls, at this point I was starting to panic. I just let the soap flow out of my hair from the shower. I jumped out of the shower and covered my head with a towel and then went out to calm down before looking. But after building up the courage I went and looked and it didn't look as bad as I had thought. And did not bother me after that. But it was the biggest scare and feeling I ever encountered. I don't think that anyone can tell you how to deal with the loss it is something extremely personal.
Once all the hair was gone, it was not as bad, after that you just cover it for other people because they have a bigger problem with it than you do. Anyway that is how I felt about it.
Another thing was when you lost all hair, you don't realize it but you loose ALL hair, eyebrows, eyelashes, and all body hair. There is nothing you can do to cover these losses. These are the hair that make you look sicker than you actually are.
I'm sure you will hear that you can use wigs, scarfs and the works, but only you will be able to tell how you will approach this issue.
