Ideas for Thanksgiving table decorations

A Centerpiece for All Seasons.

If you are anything like me you love simplicity. I hate having to try to figure out how to decorate my dining table from season to season especially between Thanksgiving and Christmas when many family members are visiting. It just seems like such a daunting task for me on top of gift buying and food shopping.

There is one way that I have simplified my "daunting dining room table". A six foot dining table is the perfect place to create a "multi-holiday" tablescape. If your table is smaller just take the idea and adapt it for your situation! It's such a versatile trick. Here are a few pointers that will have you being a master table decorator in no time. Even your friends will be begging you for the source of your designer table. The great part about this decorating option is you can be as budget minded or as lavish as you want!

First off, find a rich toned table runner. I always choose either gold or burgundy because they are colors that wear well through both seasons. The next thing that you will need are three bricks of floral foam that are specifically for artificial flowers. Take a small dowel rod, easily found at the hardware store, and secure the three bricks together to form one long section. Once the bricks are secured wrap them with a neutral toned wrapping paper or butcher paper to keep the "dust" of the floral foam from escaping.

Now that you have the base of your tablescape use assorted artificial greens to extend the design to your desired length. Fill in the rest of the foam with the greens until your base is almost completely covered. That's all you need to do to complete your base. Easy enough, right?

Now for the fun part! For Thanksgiving you can use preserved fall leaves, mini pumpkins, artificial sunflowers, and other fall themed items to fill in the rest of your base. You can be as creative or as traditional as you wish, after all, it is YOUR table! The best part is you can create your base early in the fall and add more items as the season continues. You could even add candles for Thanksgiving dinner!

After Thanksgiving is over, all you have to do is swap out the fall leaves, pumpkins and other items for your Christmas selections. Mini ornaments, candy canes, popcorn strings and even lights make great additions to your Christmas tablescape.

The base can be used year round swapping out items as each season ends and another begins think of all the cute things that can be done for Easter and Halloween! Hopefully this little decorating trick will inspire you to create a marvelous tablescape this year!

Enjoy each beautiful bloom!
