Writing a 50,000 word novel in 30 days is no small feat. It is likely that you will spend almost fifteen hours or more of each day writing. It is a nearly impossible goal, one that makes the extreme effort seem futile, but the end result is very rewarding. You may learn more about yourself than you could ever imagine.
Writing a novel is a very time-related process. You need to have time to plan out your novel and write it. Writing 400 pages worth of text is not something that can be done in a week. It takes time. Any novelist will tell you that their lives revolve around completing enough pages of a novel each day and then eating. Writing a novel in 30 days seems insane, but National Novel Writing Month will open your eyes to it.
When trying to write a novel in 30 days, you must never stop. I always stress this when writing anything, but for a 30-day time period it is even more important. Every second counts. In those thirty days, and second not devoted to eating or sleeping has to be devoted to writing. You cannot spend time mulling over what is wrong with your novel, or what other people think about it. You need to use each and every second to write that novel and push through the day to victory. Pausing in general will throw you off-guard and could possibly ruin your story. When you stop to think about what you are writing, various questions such as, "Is this okay? Am I really that dumb? Why should he fall ten stories instead of three?", start appearing in your head and clouding your mind. This produces a thick fog and eventually leads to a bad case of writer's block, which is not good to have during National Novel Writing Month.
If you have written a novel, you have felt the surge of power entering your body, the sense of accomplishment. You know that you have tackled a challenge that you only dreamed of. Imagine how rewarding it would be in thirty days. To think that you finished a work of art, a fine addition to world literature, in a mere month, is enough to bring tears of joy and pride to anyone's eyes. You will feel as if you can topple anything. You will know that you can overcome any challenge. Learning about yourself is definitely demonstrated in National Novel Writing Month. You will learn that you are not just some guy who decided to write a novel, but a novelist who bested the National Novel Writing Month challenge!

National Novel Writing Month is supposed to make us better people and help us realize what we can do. If you can write a novel in thirty days, who knows what else you can do? Maybe you could cure cancer!
