It takes a certain amount of faith to believe that soul mates exist.

Many cynics and realists would agree that it seems impossible for every person in the world to have an ideally matched soul somewhere in the universe.

I agree that this kind of logic tends to skew the odds slightly in the opponents' favor.

However, if we are going to believe that soul mates exist, we must firstly believe that souls exist.

Religious ideologies notwithstanding, how do you know if you believe in souls or soul mates?

The following simple checklist will help you determine whether or not you are soul mate material. Please answer 'yes' or 'no' to the following questions:

1) Do you believe that good things can happen if you want them bad enough?

2) Do you believe in true love?

3) Do you believe that somewhere inside yourself lives a consciousness that isn't

totally controlled by your brain?

4) Do you believe that once you die, your spirit, or soul, or energy will go on to a

another plane, life or existence?

5) Do you believe in aliens, leprechauns, ESP or the Loch Ness Monster?

If you answered more yes's than no's, then you definitely have some soul mate potential. The odds are pretty good that there's someone out there who answered just as many yes's on this quiz as you did. Keep your mind open, your faith strong and just know that someday, somehow, when you least expect it, the two of you will meet.

If you have been looking for your soul mate and are wondering what the hell is taking him/her so long, consider the possibility that the fault lies with you. It could be that your expectations are unrealistically out of line with what everyone else sees in the mirror. If this is the case, take some time to accept yourself for who you really are. Also keep in mind, that the universe is sorry that it can't find a suitable match for you at this time.

If you answered more no's than yes's, then you probably don't have a soul mate, will never have a soul mate and will probably be a jaded, miserable mess for the rest of your life. It is also likely that that the person you are with now also doesn't believe in soul mates and just settled for you before he/she got too old and ended up with nobody.
