The beauty of baseball

There is a ton wrong with Major League Baseball. Performance-enhancing drugs. Bud Selig. Interleague play tainting divisional races. The wild card expanding the playoffs. A boring All-Star week. Skyrocketing salaries. And again, Bud Selig.

It's not the first time MLB's been seen in a bad light - see: Pete Rose or the Black Sox scandal - and it won't be the last. What gives? Why do people watch MLB in the first place if all it does is tick people off and cause controversy? Simple. It's one of the best games invented. The problem isn't baseball - it's the MLB. There's too much drama and not enough police work in the game. The game itself is beautiful; the league is freaking ridiculous.

Most players would never rat out each other for cheating, and most are too proud to consider working for less money. Hell, they'd be fools not to accept the high salaries. The best part about baseball is the game itself. You can't compare a pitcher's duel to anything else in sports. Strategy and good luck is crucial to win a game. Anyone can be a hero in baseball, be it a game-winning hit by a rookie or a game-saving pickoff play. A game with little offense can be one of the most entertaining games; a sentimental favorite is the Braves clinching the World Series in 1995 on a 1-0 victory. It was a near-no-hitter for Tom Glavine, and the lone offense was a solo home run by David Justice. Baseball purists would probably call this one of the best World Series games in recent memory.

The art of baseball is unparalleled. Whether Barry Bonds cheated is another issue. I really don't care. It's the game that I love, not the characters that make up Major League Baseball.
