A glass of wine can turn a summer picnic or barbecue into a celebratory feast. Knowing the best wine to compliment a summer menu can make all the difference when it comes to dining alfresco with style. The best wines for summer fall into the following categories: - Crisp dry whites, light and fruity reds, sparking wines (including champagne) and refreshing rose` - all of which are best served cool!

If you prefer red wine, a light fruity red is ideal for summer drinking. Bulgarian Merlot is well worth a try.

Frascati is the perfect choice for summer if you are looking for a clean and crisp dry white wine. Italian white wine is generally light. It is probably best to avoid oaked wines as they tend to be heavier.

Look for light coloured rose wines. They tend to be lighter on the palate and less heavy. Rose`d' Anjou is an excellent summer choice.

Champagne is the ultimate choice. However, if you are looking for bubbles on a budget Cava is a great option for summer fizz.
