Recently, I decided to try something new and ventured into the Saltgrass Steak House in San Antonio, Texas. As you may have surmised from the title of the restaurant, the specialty of the Saltgrass Steak House is steak. However, there are other selections that you can choose from. In this article, I will describe my experience at the Saltgrass Steak House.
When I first pulled into the Saltgrass Steak House, I was surprised to find an abundance of parking spaces. From what I had heard, the Saltgrass was usually quite crowded. However, it was Sunday so many people were still at church. So if you decide to visit the Saltgrass Steak House, be sure to list Sunday(around noon) as one of the least crowded of days.
The exterior of the Saltgrass restaurant was very nice. The pavement, the restaurant itself, and the sidewalks were all in good shape. The sidewalks had an extra touch of artistic flair embedded in them. Someone had gotten the idea to place horseshoes in the sidewalk, and this helps give the restaurant its country and western image.
When you enter the restaurant you are confronted with more western themes and country music. While waiting for the server, I noticed that the restaurant used a horse trough to store the silverware and napkins in. This further instilled a feeling of the old west. The lighting of the Saltgrass restaurant was dim and cast a reddish hue, which gave the restaurant a very relaxed feeling.
I sat at a small table, but the restaurant also has booths available. You're more likely to sit at a booth if you come with a large group. As for the waiter, he was extremely nice and helpful. He even pulled out my chair for me, which is a rarity in my experience.
The food is good, especially if you like steak. As I mentioned previously, the Saltgrass restaurant specializes in steak. They have country fried steak, ribs, fillet mignon, sirloin steak; etc. Other entrees that you can choose from are shrimp, chicken, pork chops, and more. The Saltgrass also offers appetizers, a wine list, a kid menu, and desserts.
I decided to order the spinach dip for an appetizer and the country fried steak with garlic mashed potatoes for my main meal. The spinach dip was okay, but not as good as other places. As for the country fried steak, it was fairly good. However, the cooks used too much batter in my opinion. Other than that the country fried steak was fine, and the garlic mashed potatoes were also good.
The prices of the meals are surprisingly affordable. My meal cost about twelve dollars or so for the country fried steak, and the appetizer cost around seven dollars. So I paid about twenty dollars, plus a four dollar tip. The waiter deserved it. Like any restaurant, though, some items will cost more than others. But for the most part, it's not that expensive. Plus, the Saltgrass Steak House feels like a four star restaurant because of the atmosphere and great staff.
As for cleanliness, the Saltgrass restaurant excels at it. The restaurant staff do a great job of cleaning up after everyone, and you'll find it difficult to find any flaws when it comes to sanitation. I didn't venture into the bathrooms, but I'm going to bet that they're just as clean as everything else.
Overall, I give this restaurant an eight out of ten. The food is good(especially if you like steak), and the staff of the Saltgrass Steak House are extremely friendly. So the next time you feel like eating out, try the Saltgrass Steak House. You'll be glad that you did.
