Massive Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game (MMORPG): Building a good team

There is nothing better than connecting with friends on an MMORPG and working together as a team to finish quests and clear out dungeons. For any MMORPG, this team formula works, and it works well. I have tested this formula in many different games, and I have always constructed a winning team, most of the time with no casualties.

First, you need to make sure that they people in your team are around the same level as you so that there is a balance of power and no betrayals. This tells the other players in your team, "Okay, we're all in this together".

After establishing a balance of power, you need to find different types of characters for your team. There are three different types of units for MMORPGs:

Tanks- Tanks are heavily armored fighters. They are meant to take the most damage from enemies and deal out significant amounts of damage to enemies. They are supposed to charge into battles with little regard for their own safety.

Support- Support units are lightly armored units such as mages and archers who deal out ranged damage. They are meant to back up the Tanks and take down what ever enemies are hurting the tank the most. These units are not meant to run into battle or take that much damage. Support units should also have healing potions and spells so they can heal themselves and their teammates.

Bait- Yes, bait. The bait unit is supposed to lure enemies to attack the Tank. The bait unit should be a fast character, wearing as little equipment as possible. Once the enemy attacks them, they should run to the tank and have the tank and support units take care of the enemies. Note: After the Tank steps into the battle, it is a good idea for your bait to run around the back of the enemies and put in a few quick hits. Whether they are AI or other humans, this will confuse them and slow down their attacks.

In a team, you should have at least one of each unit type. It is a good idea to put in a few extra minutes to your gaming time to recruit eight or nine other teammates. Here is the formula for a winning team comprised of 7 players:

2 tanks- waiting behind the bait
4 support- behind the tanks, far away from enemies but close enough to use missiles.
1 bait- out in the open for the enemy to see.

If you can, position support units in a circle, as if to surround the enemy at a safe distance. This can make for a better trap then the Emperor's in Star Wars. And then again, it is always a good idea to invite other parties in on the looting. Having other teams back you up as reinforcements can allow you to play longer and tackle more difficult dungeons. Remember, team work is the most vital part of any MMORPG! Be a team player!
