Looking after oily skin can be daunting not to mention expensive. Everyone can tell you about washing your face and using a toning lotion but often the most important part of your skin care is overlooked. Moisturising your skin correctly after you have cleansed and toned will do much more for reducing oil production. It is the stripping of the oils from the face that can cause even more oil to be produced.
What you are really looking for is balance. You can take a more natural approach by using essential oils in you moisturizing cream. The first step is to find a basic cream or gel that feels good on your skin so visit the high street and get lots of free samples. Don't be lured into buying specialist products or even best brand names, what you are looking for is a product the causes you no problems. It should be easy to apply and feel light and comfortable on your face.
Once you have selected a cream or gel that suits you and your skin then select your essential oil. Look for quality oils that have been stored away from sunlight in dark containers. You can combine up to three oils and you should be looking for a ratio of not more than 5 drops per 100ml of product.
Some of the top oils for oily skins are bergamot, cedar wood, juniper, lemon, lemongrass, lime, melissa and the all time favourite skin oil, lavender. If you suffer from spots or acne you may want to consider bergamot and lemongrass or pettigrain. Combine the oils or use on their own if you can't find a combination you like the smell of.
Start with a low dose, you could just add a drop to you daily dose of cream in your hand and mix well. Using a clean jar measure out a useful supply of cream, add the essential oil and mix well. Alternatively prise off the lid and add your drops directly into the product and shake well.
