Marriage: Beyond the big day

The dress is beautiful. The flowers are perfect. The seating plan is bearable. What could be more complex than planning a wedding? Answer: Living a marriage.
Your wedding day is the best day of your life, you are telling the world that you want to be with your partner forever. This high, unfortunately, is often followed by a low. And so, I believe, the rest of a marriage will continue, with its peaks and troughs coming as daily life wears away at the passion we once felt for our spouse.
By no means does this mean marriage is dull, loveless or without passion. Far from it! If you ride the waves its like falling in love again and again!
You can't expect to feel butterflies in your stomach every time you see your spouse, as happened in the days when you were courting. It just wouldn't be practical, or even vaguely possible when he's covered in baby sick or hasn't showered for three days while you've been camping. But when you do feel those butterflies about your spouse it is the most amazing feeling in the world; looking at him and knowing that not only is this wonderful man making your heart beat at an extortionate rate, he is also yours, forever. And it is these peaks that make the day-to-day drudgery of a marriage not only bearable, but amazing.
