How to be happy in everyday life

Did you get up on the wrong side of the bed this morning? Does it seem like everything is going wrong? Instead of sulking or feeling sorry for yourself or remembering when your mother used to say these things, look on the bright side.

When you wake up hardly able to breathe because your nose is so clogged, look on the bright side. You'll feel better after you get up and walk around a bit, or take some medicine or something.

When you're in a public place and absolutely have to blow your nose and you make a revolting honking sound, look on the bright side. Most of the people around you will probably never see you again anyway.

When the price of gas goes up to something you never thought you'd see, look on the bright side. Most of the industrialized world pays a whole lot more than the people in the U.S. for gas.

When the bread you bought gets moldy the next day, look on the bright side. You may have found the brand that uses the fewest preservatives. Check the label just to be sure, though. It may have been extremely old bread.

When the company for which you've enjoyed working the last several years starts downsizing, and the next pink slip is yours, look on the bright side. It was probably time to change jobs, if not careers, anyway. As the saying goes, find the thing you do best, and then find someone who will pay you for doing it. Try to keep it legal, though.

When you're stuck in traffic and know that you'll be late for wherever you're going, look on the bright side. At least your car is still running, or it will be as soon as all the ones in front of it start moving.

When you have to cancel an important trip to another city because you come down with the flu, look on the bright side. It would be a whole lot worse to be ill if you were anywhere but home.

When the clothes you've enjoyed wearing for years start to disintegrate when you get dressed in the morning, look on the bright side. You definitely got your money's worth.

When there's a song you can't get out of your head and it's driving you nuts, look on the bright side. It's time to remember one you haven't thought about in ages, just to get rid of the obnoxious one.

Without getting too Einsteinian about it, whether the glass is half full or half empty depends on three things; what's in the glass, how thirsty you are and whose glass it is.
