Believe it or not, you CAN baby your baby and not break the bank. These days department stores often offer huge discounts on name-brand quality products, making them more affordable than ever. My two favorite stores are Lord and Taylor and Filene's Basement, the former for its great sales, the latter for its quality products at everyday discount prices. Even if you are not a name-brand conscious parent, you surely would not mind getting premium quality baby clothes at the price equal to or less than that of stores such as Target or Kmart.
When it comes to Lord and Taylor, the trick is to sign up for their e-mailing list where you will regularly receive 15 to 20 percent discount coupons for the whole family. They are usually sent around times of huge store-wide sales, so you get double the savings. I take these opportunities to stock up. The infant clothes from my last shopping trip cost between $2 - $8 a piece on brands such as Little Me and Ralph Lauren.
Filene's Basement is great when you haven't had the opportunity to stock up, but just need a few pieces to get by until you find better deals. The prices are not as good as Lord and Taylor with its discount on discount, but definitely beat paying the full price on the name brands if you just need something today (their email list regularly sends discount coupons for 20% off one item). They also offer a wider selection of brand-names than Lord and Taylor since they get their clothing stock from various department stores. Shop at Filene's if you can't wait for the sales.
Now last but not the least on my list is Costco. Although the selection is limited - Carter's is pretty much it - there is nothing like the bang for the buck. At $5 - $6 a piece, it is hard to resist adding a few more pieces for frequent changing to your quality baby collection.
