Quick cleaning tips should be for everyone, they should save time, they should save money, and they should work. Saying that they are only for busy moms hints that they won't work for anyone else, and this would be wrong. This said; let's look at some very simple but effective cleaning tips, gathered through the years:
Toilet Stains
If you have stains in he toilet, especially hard water stains, you can spend a lot on good toilet bowl cleaners, or you can try simply putting 2-4 of the foaming denture cleaning tablets in the toilet and allow them to work for an hour, then flush. This also helps sanitize. It is best to do this before the stains get too bad. Alka-Seltzer will also work, but not quite as well.
Alternately, pour a can of coke in the toilet and let the carbonic acids eat away the stains.
TAR OR PITCH ON HANDS AND SKIN: This sticky problem doesn't have to be difficult to clean. Spray the affected area with WD-40, work it into the pitch or tar, then use a teaspoon full of dish soap with just a little water, and work this in as well. Rinse under warm water. The oil acts as a solvent, breaking up the pitch/tar, and the soap cuts the oil. If you don't have any WD-40, cooking oil will also work, though not quite as well.
Oil Stains on concrete
Pour a can of coke on the fresh stain, allow it to sit for fifteen minutes to a half hour, scrub the area with a stiff brush, add a little powdered laundry detergent, scrub again, and then hose off. This is best on fresh stains; the ones that haven't had time to soak deep into the concrete.
Pouring clay-style cat litter over a very fresh oil spill will also help absorb the oil.
Homemade all purpose cleaner
Mix 2 cups warm water with 1/2 cup household ammonia, 1/2 cup rubbing alcohol, and 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap (pour the other ingredients into the water, rather than the other way around, to prevent it from creating so many suds.) This can be put into spray bottles for use in the kitchen, bathroom, or where ever it is needed. This is far less expensive than store bought cleaners, and isn't hard to make. Note that if you are going to use this on glass, omit the dish soap, which will leave streaks.
Natural Potpourri
A very cheap and effective potpourri can be made by growing your own herbs, then simply hanging bundles of the herbs in a few places in the house, to air dry. Okay, this isn't really potpourri, but it has the same result. When the bundles no longer have a strong scent, they are probably dry and ready to put
