Is it possible that society has its priorities confused?

Society has a lot more than just its priorities confused. After years of shaping and molding the perfect society to look a certain way, wear clothes and hair a certain way, speak a certain way, worship a certain way, and to believe certain things, in a sense a large part of society is totally brain washed. This explains the reason why, when a person is "different," they are ridiculed and looked down upon to be labeled as black, Jew, gay, ugly, fat, poor, etc.

Society as a whole is so caught up on what "should" be correct or right, it fails to appreciate the differences in individuals. Why does it try to uniform the world but cast down those who follow different paths. In the world today, too many people are obsessed with looking a certain way or possessing certain things. The lifestyle, because it is portrayed on T.V. as the glamorous life, outcast the individuals who simply don't care about material things or others who are left to feel inferior because they simply can't afford, but remain content, with the things that they have.

Turn on the T.V. Reality show after reality show rip through the airwaves. Society continues to brainwash us by allowing us inside the lives of others. We see their belongings, or we see what "makes" a person beautiful and naturally we envy and want. What ever happened to the T.V. shows that entertained and informed. What happen to the Cosby's and Family Matters, emphasizing the importance of family and relating through episodes of everyday family issues. What about the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, reaching out through their episodes, allowing teenagers to relate to the trials and tribulations, not to mention the antics of Will, always showing a resolution or better methods at the end. Instead of these morally fulfilling shows we are forced to watch how to lose weight shows, how to sit and gossip about the short comings of others, how to throw a ridiculously expensive party for a sixteen year old, and we march through the houses of the rich, only dreaming of owning a small amount of what they had.

Society no longer teaches us about getting along, together. It does nothing to help us learn from mistakes we may make by watching others. Society doesn't make us feel good as individuals, only excepting a certain class, race, or population. A person should feel welcomed, protected, and nurtured by a society. Because of the stereotypes placed upon us, those of us who actually care what a person thinks, we race to fit into a social class, instead of being one's self, excepting and loving themselves for who they are. While this is hard to do in a society that has their priorities confused, we should strive to simply be who we are, no matter who likes it, starting a new type of society. The type of society who prioritizes by minding their own business, loving and excepting those because they are human beings, because they belong to society as a whole.
