The Middle game in chess is the least understood part of the game. The opening has all of its theory and rules. Develop your pieces effectively, don't move the same piece twice during the opening, control the center etc. The middle game is uncharted waters for all but the most experienced chess players. The middle game is where original plans and tactics rule.
The middle game begins after the opening phase ends and all pieces are developed. Unfortunately at this phase of the game many players are at a loss as too what to do next. The great thing about this phase of the game of chess is that this is the point where a players personal creativity comes in to account.
You must develop a strategic plan at this point, either how to checkmate the enemy king or how to win enough material to assure you win in the endgame. You must analyze your position and material advantages (or lack of either) to formulate this plan.
First and foremost in my opinion and the opinion of the best chess coaches in the world also, is you must master tactics. Tactics are the heart and soul of the middle game. If you don't understand Pins, forks and skewers and master them as well as other tactical maneuvers, Well then you should take up another game because chess is not for you!
I wish you luck in your chess adventure, it will give you a lifetime of reward and enjoyment. Chess is an ancient game and one of the best. It is not a video game! Thank goodness! If you lived to play chess for a thousand years you still could not master it completely. This is what has made chess the great game that it is and given it the longevity it has enjoyed!
