Reflections: What would you do for money

The question is what would I do for money - not what some other person with differing capabilities, connections, or world view would do for money. I can tell you what I would not do for money, and the first thing which comes to mind is theft. I worked on a job about 20 years ago which involved handling thousands of dollars in cash each week, and the company had very poor accountability procedures which allowed a number of employees to steal. A few were caught, but the experienced got away with hundreds of dollars per day. I never did this, though presented with many opportunities. I also won Best Employee at that company of about 400 employees in 1986 and 1987. I also would not remain beyond a certain point with a crooked employer. A particularly unpleasant example of this scenario took place here in Las Vegas about 10 years ago while working a second job during the week with an employer who cheated his suppliers and asked me to cover for him on the telephone when they called to demand payment for services and products rendered. We live in a real world and it often is not practical to walk off a job with the first perception of shady dealings....but this guy really pushed the situation beyong my breaking point. One day, he had asked me to hire some homeless men to do a job and when they had completed the job for him, he refused to pay them. I got in his face and told him I wasn't going to remove myself from his face until he handed over the cash to me to go pay those guys. Then I walked off the job. Now as for what I WOULD DO for money....I would have to answer in standard ways. As far as possible, I sought work which went as well as possible with my skills and experience, as well as looking for jobs which allowed as much independence as possible. I worked additional hours to earn more money and as a by-product, to gain favour with the companies, and to earn additional monies, I sought out the experienced and professional advice of money managers. Needless to say, I stay away from those late-night TV advertisements for get-rich-quick schemes and all such ventures. That's about it. There are plenty of other people who can offer you more colourful suggestions and accounts of pursuing qquick or large amounts of money. You'll find them in jails and prisons, and sitting in front of those TVs at 3 A.M. - wondering how they could have been so stupid.
