If i were to ask a recently enrolled martial arts student why he/she decided to enrole in martial arts more times than not he/she would answer self defense, This fact is very disappointing to me. When enrolling in any of the many different forms of martial arts one shouldn't enter whatever form you choose solely to learn self defense, you should be ever conscious of the life lessons that martial arts teach. Life lessons such as, self control, and developing self confidence but yet not forming a since of arrogance. Yes i know this sounds like a bad jet lee movie however there is truth in what i am saying.
When i joined martial arts i was a very small and even more so shy eighth grader, after a few months i noticed i had twice as much self confidence than i did before i had started, however i was not by any means arrogent. Unfortunantly not everyone looks at martial arts with the same view that i do. Agian more often than not people only start martial arts to learn self defence and how to fight. From my personal experiances when you have people such as the ones that join only to learn how to fight the end result is an arrogent person that can really hurt somone, which can often be dangerous.
