Homophobia: My views
Ok, I know I am going to be swimming up hill on this one. I realize how full of emotions this subject is. After all, it is to do with both love and sex, two things which we all quickly lose our heads over. But I am going to be frank, because that is what this is all about.
I am against Homosexuality. Ok, hold your guns now. Don't light the torches yet. I am not against homosexuals nor would I stop being friends with anyone just because they were homosexuals. I just don't judge people by their sexual preference. But I am against homosexuality as a principle. The crucial issue with homosexuality today is conformity. When it first became and issue, it was considered strange and perverse and in order to conform to the norm, the majority of people whose reactions are usually no better that sheep reacted to it with blind fear and total rejection. Today, the social climate has completely reversed itself and everyone seems to be okay with it and it is considered very bad form, to be against homosexuality.
But despite the swing in popular opinion, the crucial issue has not changed. People are still afraid of being seen as non-conformists. The result is even worse than blind hostility. The awkward attempts to act normal amongst homosexuals, which by-and-large are always over-done. The patronizing manner with which heterosexuals will shout down anyone who appeared to voice the slightest anti-homosexual view, as if the homosexual present was an invalid child. It all just smells of indigestion and strong bleach.
Funny enough, I feel like I am coming out' by saying this. And to a small extent, I can feel the anxiety of what will people think' in my stomach. Why is it that it is okay for someone to be an atheist (i.e. against all religion and the idea that there is a God) but not okay to be against homosexuality? It seems to me that homosexuals are using the same bullying tactics that they have suffered from throughout the years. What's more, they have had a lot more success. Tied to a pillar today, I suspect that it would be the homophobe who would be set alight first before the homosexual.
