Give change, not money: Why you should say 'no' to panhandlers

First, don't ever GIVE your money away, always ask for something in return. I don't know about you but I work too hard to just give my money away. So if someone asks me for change I ask for something simple...advice. Hey, I'll give a dollar to gain knowledge, hell, I paid thousands to hear phd's spew their garbage. So this is what I've heard recently...

Hurricane Katrina transplant to Wash DC, in subway -
"Take the indemnity insurance if it's offered at your job"
I guess he hadn't, and broke his leg in his kitchen and then lost his house. By the way, I do have Aflac.

Girl on NJ turnpike rest stop - out of gas - out of $
"Don't leave home without gas"
That's good advice, obvious, but still good advice.

Man on NW expressway, OKC - hungry on the road sign -
"Don't drive on holidays"
Ok, but then I wouldn't be giving you any money, dummy.

Sometimes the advice ain't so good but in end it can make you feel better because you haven't just "given" your money away, you've bought something.
