Poetry: Pain from love

Have You Ever

Have you ever looked deep into a person's eyes and found their soul
Have you ever touched that person and seemed to just know
Did it ever occur to you that he was all you would need
That maybe your worse flaw wasn't really your greed

Have you ever watched him from far away
Waiting and searching for the perfect words to say
Maybe you don't know what it's like to feel

That without him in your life the world just doesn't seem real

Have you ever seen the way he looks at another
And wondered why he didn't want you as his lover
Have you ever watched his lovely eyes cry
Have you tasted his tears and thought you might just die

Do his words even seem like they could tear you apart
Did he call you a friend and break your aching heart
Did you ever think you might try to tell him how you feel
Did you have a dream of him and wish that it could be real

Have you ever lost someone who was oh so dear to you
Before you could even have him or hold him near to you
Has your world ever seemed to just fall away
All because, for one night, he wouldn't stay

Did he ever tell you that he loved someone else
Did he know that you held him dear above even yourself
Have you ever thought that maybe you should just go
And then realized you'd die if you ever left him alone

Maybe someday you'll tell him and he'd know
That you respect his feelings and that's why you take things slow
Maybe you'll hold him in your arms and he'd finally realize
That love was the look that you always held in your eyes

Maybe one night while you're lying awake in bed
And on your chest you wish he'd rest his beautiful head
When you're watching him from afar and feeling emotionally weathered
Maybe then I'd ask you, "Have you ever . . .?"

    You left me for another,
But I do not feel pain.
    I feel nothing.
    I am numb.

    The wind blew against me.
