Buyer's guide to kayak shoes

When you are shopping for kayak shoes it is important to take a few things into consideration.

1. Comfort of the shoes
2. Traction of the shoes
3.Protection of the shoes

Kayak shoes come in a variety of colors and designs. These days with so many different kayak shoes on the market it can be a bit confusing to shop for them. Comfort should be the most important factor in buying your booties (kayak shoes).

Of course you are going to want to be comfortable while doing your sport, so try some on before purchasing them if possible to find the ones that you can move in the best. There are different degrees of things to look for in a good pair of kayak shoes.

1. Ones that offer better traction
2. The sole of the shoe, some are designed to be less slippery
3. Some are designed to keep your feet warm

There are waterproof socks that you can also buy to go along with your kayak shoes so that you do not have to go through the whole day paddling with wet feet. Think about the condition that you will be paddling in as well. Different conditions call for different needs.

There are many different kayaking shoes available these days and at any price range. Some of the better ones that I have read great reviews on are not to expensive at all. Here is a list of a few different good quality kayaking shoes that you may want to look at ~

NRS Attack Shoes ~ $70.00
They are waterproof and have the best soles available to be less slippery. They are ideal for taking the hikes in between kayaking and are quit comfortable. They contain a synthetic leather wrap on sides and toe, as well as a hook-and-loop instep/heel strap.

NRS Paddle WetShoe ~ $44.00
They are high cut and provide great support and protection to all boaters. They are lined with fleece to keep your feet warm and comfortable. It also has a padded ankle patch to protect the common pressure point problem some face. Equipped with an ankle zipper to easily put on and off.

NRS Desperado Shoe ~ $48.00
They have a stretchy Lycra exterior to keep your feet comfortable and warm as well. Rubber sole for great traction and protection. They close with an elastic pull cord with cordlock to secure.

Timberland Men's Hydroclimb Hybrid Water Shoe ~ $79.95
These ones are great to go from kayaking to mountain climbing in a breeze. They have great traction and support for your feet. They have a hydrophobic synthetic leather with a mesh inner lining. They create a sticky feeling to wet surfaces to help create a great grip and traction for you.

The North Face Diad Boa Shoe - Women's ~ $89.95
They are very comfortable and have a rubber sole to help the traction that you will need. the part that I thought was the neatest on these shoes is the Boa lacing system that works with a dial in the back of the shoe. All you do is turn it to tighten or loosen the shoe easily. Very good traction shes.

There are many many kayaking shoes to look at when you are shopping for a good pair. make sure that you try them on and see how comfortable that they are for you. The last thing that you are going to want to worry about when you are paddling is your shoes. So invest in a well fitting and comfortable pair for yourself. It is a very important part of the sport. Good Luck!
