There are the blogging communities, the listing directories communities, the video group of communities - YouTube, Fliptrack, etc. The blogging communities for instance have Mybloglog, Myblogcatalog and MySpace etc. In the game Second Life, various communities are formed too, for the purpose of social gathering.
Directories which list all related categories of websites together are communities too.
Why are there so many communities? What are their benefits? Those communities which I went to are those which I mention above. Joining communities such as Mybloglog or Myblogcatalog, enable you to search for similar interest blogs and user easily. There are chat boxes for easier communication too. Message can be public or private. So it serves multipurpose. For people who want to 'advertise' their link or websites, they left a message in our chat box. We can add different user as friends or contacts. We can join any communities which is of interest to you too.
As for blog or website directories, it serves the same purpose. But it is portray in a different form. It list out all the blogs in sequence with ranking. There are categories to classify them as well. Not only does this directories facilitate information seekers to find facts and read blogs of interest to them, using ranking will help to motivate the bloggers or website owners. Bloggers or website owners will want to improve themselves on ways to climb up the ranking. In such a way, they will find ways to improvise on their blogs regularly. These would result in better quality blogs and websites to be 'enjoyed' by readers.
All these means that networking is so much simplier, effective and fun. If put to good use, online communities is suppose to bring more traffic, to add in more fun and joy to surfing on the internet, to know more people around you and thereby promoting your website, your business, or even marketing yourself, depending on your purpose. It is a place which you can disseminate useful information to similar interest people faster and more effectively and it is a place where you always find friends who are of similar interest to you.
