Is it possible that society has its priorities confused?

Society has its priorities confused? That's an understatement. I can imagine the news program after another 9/11 occurs.

"This just in, a plane has crashed into the Sears Tower in Chicago, hundreds dead in the biggest fire...BREAKING NEWS: Paris Hilton has just been spotted in the restroom at JFK International. Let's get people's thoughts on how this will affect their lives."

That's right. We're at war in Iraq, terrorists are blowing themselves and others up to appease Allah in their perverted interpretation of the Quran, some in our government stand accused of major crimes, not the least of which is treason (punishable by death)...

and what is the breaking news? iPhones, some stupid hot dog scarfing contest (the worst waste of food I can ever imagine) and Paris Hilton.

Does it not bother anyone else that more people have voted on American Idol than voted in the past 3 Presidential and mid-term elections? People are dying in Iraq for the right to vote, but the average citizen can't be bothered to get off their butts and go to the polls? All this, mind you, despite the fact that voting keeps getting easier and easier. It used to be you had one day-the first Tuesday in November, known as "Election Day"-to vote, now you have two weeks or more and you don't even have to show ID to vote. However, I guess that's too hard to get off the chair from watching another Paris Hilton commentary and spend a few minutes to vote.

House sales are falling drastically, but that's apparently not as important as the constant talk about Takeru Kobayashi (it's pronounced, by the way, tah-kay-roo, not tuh-KEE-roo) failing in his quest to win some hot dog eating contest at Coney Island. As I said, that's a waste of food. Makes me want to throw up, and I didn't even go to Coney Island, let alone gorge myself on hot dogs.

Islamic terrorists are bombing, blowing people up, and intimidating the general public into cowering in fear. The news shows people lining up en masse for the new iPhone, which is connected to the worst network I have ever dealt with in my life.

What is wrong with people today? Look around you. You see that Jeep that tried to bomb Glasgow Airport? Don't think it can happen here?

Think again. Don't sit there and tell me it wouldn't have worked. The point is that some competent terrorist could have actually done the deed right and hundreds would be dead. Glasgow today, O'Hare someday. And, while the airport was up in flames, in danger of collapsing-killing even more-you'd be sitting there, wondering how you could participate in that contest in New York.

And that is my two-cent commentary for today.
