Black berries in our area grow prolific along mountain paths and at edges of strip mines. Walking along two tracks almost certain bring us to patches of blackberries.
I've found the best, biggest plumpest berries to be the ones you have to work for, so go slowly into the patch carefully moving the vines around you. Sometimes I have to step on some old brambles and make a path. I'm rewarded abundantly. It is very advisable to wear long sleeves and pants and put on that bug spray. Around our area, ticks are prolific, so dressing this way...especially with light clothing. Dark clothing attracts the ticks. To pick berries around the edges of patches are easy, but those berries are usually drier and smaller because they are always in the sun. I'm going again this year...I'm trekking up the side of our hill. At the top...wow! I'm going to work at an ice cream bucket full. Happy picking.
Oh by the way...I like this kind of blackberry picking, because I don't have to care or control them. Maybe you can find a patch like this somewhere.
