When I first used a personal computer, an Apple II, the color I only had was green. The only programming language I had was Basic which I used to write simple programs, and create graphics. The word processor was PFS Write, a very simple to use software. There were no icons, wallpaper, screen savers, videos, or whatever you can get on a modern PC. Today, we can do everything in color on our PCs to surf the Internet, watch videos, program with more than just Basic, design graphics, and many other interesting stuffs. With all these advancements, one may ask, "What is the future of personal computing?". To me, personal computing will continue to have a very bright future - new inventions, and better systems will continue to appear. In the next few paragraphs, I will tell you what, in my opinion, may happen to the common PC devices, and the way we use our PCs.
The mouse:
This device may gradually be replaced by the touch screen technology. Instead of having to move the pointer to an icon with your mouse, you can simply touch it straight away with your finger. This helps you to save time
The keyboard:
Instead of having to type, you may be able to scribble something on a palette. The computer processor will be able to recognize your writing, and converts it into type-written format.
The unit:
The unit may soon be shrunk to the size of a pocket calculator as it will be possible to place many of the cards together with the microprocessor into a single microchip. This allows us to save a lot of space.
The monitor or screen:
You may soon be able to roll up or push vertically down your monitor or screen when are not using it so that you can save space, and view whatever you want that was blocked by it.
Program loading:
A program may soon be able to load in split seconds.
Writing programs:
It may been be very much easier to write computer programs. Programs may soon be written with the touch-screen technology.
Internet surfing may also take some drastic changes. Here are a few I can think of:
Better search engines:
You may soon be able to sing a tune over a microphone to find out its title, and more about it. You can also upload an unknown picture to find out what is actually about.
3D display:
It may soon be the common thing to have every image to be displayed as three dimensional unless it is a flat painting. You can view cars, electronic equipments, PCs, and other tangible stuffs in 3D.
I guess the list go on as long as it takes but this is all I can think with regards to the future of computing. Happy computing.
