Kayak reviews: Wave Sport EZG

Released in 2005, the Wave Sport EZG bears some similarity to the EZ and ZG models. Combing the river running features of the EZ, with the super performance characteristics that the ZG offered, it is the latest in playboat design. The rising popularity of playboating in recent times could have something to do with the creative designs of these boats. They boats are designed for more effortless riding of waves, haystacks, whitewater and crests.

The EZG, has a hull that is almost a copy of the ZG, with regards to its fluidity and speed. However, it goes further with a side hull that is fashioned to allow more flexibility when playboating. The sides of the boat and its secondary stability, is designed to allow for more resistance to currents under the hull.

Ease of use is a great feature of this boat. While kayaking has always been a real endurance sport, particularly playboating, with the EZG, you have more time to enjoy the ride and play while conserving energy. Paddling is not a chore and you find yourself rambling down the river with grace and ease.

Taking some of the unnecessary effort out of the equation, the EZG offers a fun filled ride. You are able to play with the river along the way as you attempt flatwater moves in the unruffled portions of the water and it offers great support even in rough waves.

There are different sizes to choose from. Starting with the EZG 42 with a length of 6 feet and width of 24", it is recommended for a paddler weight between 89 to 140 pounds. At the high end is the EZG 60, with a length of 6 feet 9 inches, 25 feet in width and with a paddler weight of 180-240 pounds. Expect to pay from $700. and upwards.

The EZG wave sport is a user friendly yet high performing boat. The EZ that came before, was favored for its stability, and ease of maneuverability. Its successor, the EZG, is slimmer with a hull that makes it ideal for freestyle moves. Whether you want to play it save are play the daredevil, the EZG is aptly designed to satisfy both the extreme thrill seeker and the slightly less adventurous of us. Not only do they look good, they make you feel good all over. Be sure to test drive one soon and you could be hooked on the EZG Wave Sport.
