Freckles can be endearing and make a person appear more youthful. However, many people find freckles to be a nuisance and prefer to have a smooth, even complexion. As a redhead, I am susceptible to getting freckles and make an effort to protect my fair skin from the sun in order to avoid freckling. I used to have freckles when I was younger, but overtime they have faded considerably and now they are barely noticeable. If you are one of the many women who is sick of having your freckles called cute and would like to find a way to diminish their appearance and/or cover them up, I am willing to offer some advice from my own personal experience.
Alpha hydroxy acids are useful in fading freckles over time by penetrating the top layer of skin and leaving the skin underneath rejuvenated. AHA are often used in chemical peels, however, they can also be found in many face and body creams and cleanser that may aid in the process of diminishing the appearance of freckles and sun spots. Because AHA exfoliate the upper layer of your skin, you are vulnerable to getting more sun damage so it is best to wear a sunscreen of at least SPF 15 (however, as a redhead, I prefer the highest possible) with a broad hat or if possible, avoid sun exposure altogether.
For concealing freckles with make-up, it is best to use a concealer instead of a foundation. With a concealer, you do not have to apply it to your entire face but only to the spots that are needed. If you prefer using a foundation instead of a concealer, or a foundation in conjunction with a concealer, if is best to use a liquid foundation instead of powder, especially if your freckles are fairly dark. Depending on how light or dark your freckles are, you may need to apply more or less in order to successfully conceal your freckles. Adding blush or bronzer also may detract from the appearance of freckles as well but it is best to apply it sparingly. However, it is best not to go overboard with applying make-up because wearing too much make-up will severely clog your pores and can detract from your natural beauty.
Many people with freckles either love them or hate them, and although it's impossible to get rid of them completely, there are way to diminish their appearance and fade them overtime. What I hope for the most is that people take care of their skin and protect themselves from getting skin cancer, a rising epidemic in the United States. It is especially important if you have fair skin to always wear sunscreen and protect your skin.
