Bible study: The armor of God in Paul's Letter to the Ephesians, chapter six

by Judy Waller

Created on: July 05, 2007

I do agree that every Christian does truly need the "Suit of Armor" told to us in Paul's letter. Here is the essence of why we need that "suit of Armor from God. This armor is a spiritual armor and Paul wrote about it, because all Christians need this armor in order to fight off the tricks of the Devil.

The Bible tells us Christians the need to resist the demon powers that have been misleading much of mankind. The Apostle Paul tells us: "We have a fight, not against blood and flesh, but . . . against the world rulers of this darkness, against the wicked spirit forces in the heavenly places." This means that every Christian must "take up the complete suit of armor from God, that [he] may be able to resist in the wicked day."Ephesians. 6:11-13.

In what is called the last days of this wicked and violent world, the demon influence on many is intensifying their attacks and especially against true Christians and any who are trying to be obedient to their Creator. These demon influences are out to wear a Christian down physically and mentally. Some can't sleep due to their influences, others hear voices. Their purpose is to try and turn the Christian against God and His purpose for all of us.

Many people go and take sedative and tranquilizer and other drugs but they do not help because unlike actual mental disorders, demon possession is not helped by these methods. What then can help in resisting these demon attacks? God provides us with that remedy. This is "the complete suit of armor from God." Hence the "fine soldier of Christ Jesus" will put on this armor and fight, resisting demon forces in this wicked day.2 Tim. 2:3.

First, one must take and make sure they are living according to God's Word, the Bible. Since our warfare is not against flesh and blood but against wicked spirit forces, successful resistance calls for putting on the "complete suit of armor from God." The apostle Paul at Ephesians 6:11-18 describes the pieces of this armor, such as the girdle of truth and "the breastplate of righteousness." When one denies God's truth, indulges in unrighteousness and disobeys Jehovah, he is depriving himself of the protection of such spiritual armor.

Keep in mind Samuel's words to King Saul: "To obey is better than a sacrifice, to pay attention than the fat of rams; for rebelliousness is the same as the sin of divination, and pushing ahead presumptuously the same as using uncanny power." 1 Sam. 15:22, 23 King Saul disobeyed God, God's spirit was removed from him, and
