Being President is about leading, and being a Democrat or Republican Presidential candidate is about following, following the party line and basically disregarding the hopes dreams and feelings of Mr. And Mrs. John Q Citizen.
As the two parties become more and more polarized the basic American who is searching for a Candidate who can actually get something done is becoming more and more ostracized from the great American dream. The dream that I speak of is actually feeling as if they are somehow represented by our Government.
This writer and humble American can almost imagine that one day soon we will see a Candidate that wins an election based on his or her refusal to align themselves with a party. I would be very interested in hearing a Candidate say to the masses 'I am not a Republican, or a Democrat, but an American just like you !'
Wouldn't it be amazing to have a President that hadn't already sold his convictions and very political soul to a party that by it's own nature has alienated forty to sixty percent of the American People. Wouldn't it be fantastic to hear from a Candidate that actually took from the knowledge base of the Democrats and Republicans, without being terrified of expressing disdain or frustration with either or both of them.
Can you imagine a President that actually addressed the American People without regard to their race, gender, age, or sexual orientation? A Candidate that actually cared what the average 25-45 year old 40-60 thousand dollar a year American thought or cared about. One that said 'Perhaps the IRS is nothing more than a snake eating it's own tail !', or 'Perhaps more choices, prosecutions, and laws should be made and enforced on the State Level and let the Federal Government concentrate of Federal Issues.' Can you imagine a Candidate saying to the masses, 'How about your State decide on issues like speed limits, abortion, tobacco regulation, drinking ages, and seat belt laws, and let the population choose what State they want to live in. ?' What if a Candidate suggested that the States should keep the lions share of their own tax revenue and only send a small percent of it off to Washington? Wouldn't it be a much better world if the States competed for tax revenue and citizens instead of tax breaks and a hand outs in the form of a Federal Grants of their own money that comes from Washington, with strings attached.?'
None of these issues can or ever will be addressed from inside of the Political Machine.
With every year that passes the problems of this Great Nation become more and more obvious. Millions of Democrats and republicans are identified as such out of default, and we are waiting for a Candidate to come to us. When he or she does they will come unencumbered by a political affiliation but instead be prepared to represent the American People.
