I have always been told to use "Bay Leaf" in your dry goods such as rice to keep the pests it's a natural pest repellent.
I have never had a problem since I have use this method. However dry goods such as corn meal and rice can come with the eggs already inside unhatched, and under the right conditions then will hatch.
However since I started using bay leaf I haven't seen anything.
Also keeping your rice and other dry goods in an air tight container help immensely to keep anything from invading them. I have always used a zip lock bag, poured my rice in and placed a few Bay leafs inside, zip up the bag removing the air with a straw as much as possible, then into the air tight container, always worked for me.
I knew a woman who went one step further, she used to place bay leafs in her cupboards also but I never found that to be necessary.
