While everyone knows that chocolate and fats are bad for your skin, not many people realize that your kitchen cabinets and Frigidaire are full of face friendly foods. While cosmetics and lotions can temporarily fix the problem with your skin, you should be looking for a long term solution to the problem. Whether your skin is dry, oily, red, or aging faster than it should, you can find foods that will help fix or somewhat alleviate the problem.
There are four basic problem areas that foods in your kitchen can help. These are listed below,
Problem one is unhealthy skin. You can try all the lotions in the world to help, but they are just a quick fix. For something that lasts longer, your diet will need to be changed. There are many foods in your cabinet and refrigerator that can help to fix this problem. About the best choice is to add a lot of leafy green vegetables to your diet. These of course would include lettuce and greens. About the best green to eat for your skin is kale. Why does kale work so well? It is loaded with zinc and this vitamin helps the skin by repairing cells from within. Anther great food for this skin problem is any food rich in vitamin C. Again, we know that these are foods that heal.
Problem two is skin that is damaged or broken down from overexposure to the elements. If your skin has been sun damaged repeatedly, this might be your problem. Any foods rich in antioxidants are good for this purpose. These foods include broccoli and berries, particularly blue berries. Adding these to your diet will help repair your damaged skin in the long run.
Problem three is red or irritated skin. Perhaps your skin stays irritated due to harsh chemicals or your environment. The best foods to add to your diet to help this are foods rich in omega three fatty acids. We of course hear a lot about the health benefits of adding fatty acids to our diets, but many of us were unaware of the advantages to our skin. This of course includes salmon and tuna. These foods will eventually reduce redness and irritation to your skin.
The fourth problem is skin that is aging too fast. We all wish we could stop the aging process, but by watching what we eat, perhaps we could slow it down somewhat. Foods rich in lycopene are good for this perfect. The absolute best food for this problem is tomatoes. They are rich in lycopene which helps to repair the collagen in your skin. So be sure to use lots of tomatoes in your cooking or in your fresh salads.
You might have noticed that almost all of these problems go together. Chances are if your skin is dry, it is damaged and irritated. In order to fix your skin the healthy way by watching your diet, we will need to make some drastic changes to what we eat. But in the long run your skin will be healthier for it.
