It's not surprising that some people have a fear of haircuts. I know very few people who have not looked into the mirror and been disappointed with what the stylist has done at least once in their life. Added to this the fact that it could take months to get your hair back to the way you want it, and the huge amount of hard earned cash you have had to pay out, it's not surprising people simply don't bother.
However, those that don't go and have their hair cut professionally by a talented stylist are missing out. Looking into the mirror and seeing beautiful healthy looking hair in a cut which is both fashionable and suits you personally is one of the best feelings in the world.
I have "difficult" hair and over the years have had many different haircuts, done by many different people, from hugely expensive stylists to my mum's friend in the comfort of my kitchen! You won't necessarily get the best cut just from the most expensive stylist, there is a little more to it than that.
Firstly, I would recommend you do your research. Ask around your friends, where do they go? If you see someone in your local area with great hair, go ask them where they got it done, I promise they will be flattered. Secondly, when you have found a salon you think you might like to try, go and investigate it in person. Look at the pictures on the walls, the other customers, the staff. Ask to speak to a stylist and have a consultation before you make a final decision to go ahead or not.
Once you have booked the appointment and are ready to go, I suggest going armed with some pictures of styles and colors you like so that you can show the stylist exactly what you want. Remember however, they are hairdressers not magicians, they have to work with what you already have so don't have unrealistic expectations and listen to what they advise for your face and hair type.
Above all remember, if it doesn't turn out quite how you wanted, it will grow out eventually.
