Guide to low fat picnics

Spring and summer seem to go hand in hand with get-togethers and of course, that means picnics. There are a variety of different reasons to go on a picnic. Some of those reasons include:

* Family reunions:
A good old picnic is the perfect way to get all the relatives together. Good food and good fun. Who could ask for more?

* Romance:
Everyone knows a picnic is a romantic summer outing for any couple that enjoys nature and sunshine or moonlight depending on your preference.

* For the Love of being outside:
When you have no excuse to have a picnic you can just have one for no other reason than the sheer joy of being outside enjoying all the beauty of nature around you.

While it's apparent we don't need a real reason to go on a picnic and chances are many of us will go on more than a few during the warm months. We need to be aware of the fact that picnics don't have to be heavy fat laden meals.

Sure, we all remember the days of potato salad, fried chicken, chips, cakes and an assortment of cakes and cookies. Which for most of us we enjoyed way to much heavy food during countless picnics which is why we have to workout much harder now to get and keep the extra weight off.

Sample Low-Fat Menu:

Grilled chicken
Fresh vegetables
Low-fat veggie dip
Tossed salad
Low-fat tortilla chips and salsa
Fruit salad
Fresh fruit
Homemade ice cream

If you just have to have pasta salads or potato salads, you can easily cut the fat by using low fat or fat-free mayo instead of the full fat version.

By simply using our imagination, we can have amazing picnics that are light and low fat. After all, who feels like playing after a heavy meal? If we eat low-fat meals we will be energized to go for walks, play baseball, Frisbee or take part in countless other activities instead of lying around with a belly ach complaining about being to full.
