Great destinations for bike vacations

The sloping curves of the red and orange Moab Desert and the dramatic slot canyons strewn throughout the region make it one of the most entertaining bike destinations on the map. Perfect for any level rider and full of amenities (should you want them), this is the destination for a personal, family, or friend-filled biking vacation.

The Moab Desert is home to an incredible sunset hued undulating field of sandstone and slickrock. Laced with bike trails that range from flat and easy to slopes appropriate for stunt riders, there is something for everyone here. There's enough room for you to bike for literally hundreds of miles without stopping (or at least without returning to civilization), and for those who yearn only for shorter bike trips, the are plenty of destinations ready for you to visit.

The Moab Desert is famous for its slot canyons, which are thin slices in the earth: often only a few feet wide and dozens of feet deep, they provide much-needed shade and a breathtaking perspective on the desert. For those who find themselves a bit claustrophobic or if there's rain nearby (the canyons flood quickly), there are petroglyphs and pictorgraphs. Any guide worth its weight in salt will be able to point you to some of the beauties, as well as to scenic vistas and hidden oasis's, should you bore of the picturesque red-rock scenery.

There's ample lodging nearby, and camping is allowed in strategic regions throughout the desert, so whether you're a distance biker or a day-hiker, there are plenty of bedding options for you to enjoy.

You will likely never see a place as beautiful, as bizarre, and as inspiring as the Moab Desert. That it is the perfect terrain for mountain and stunt biking is really just an added bonus. Here, the journey is definitely more important than the destination, and you'll be shocked at the geological and biological diversity in the area.
