Your pale skin danced in the sunlight.
Your dark hair laid -
wet and limp -
in the hollow
between your shoulder blades.
Your happiness shone
through the gap in your front teeth
and the soles of your feet
were coated with coarse sand granules
giving the otherwise smooth surface
a bit of texture.
The strings of your bikini top
were tied tight enough to leave red marks
at the base of your neck
and the small triangles of material
clung to your small breasts
leaving little to the imagination.
The smell of watermelon jolly ranchers
seeped from your pores
and into the humid July air
as you watched the women talk
and the children play
on this wednesday afternoon.

Poetry: Summer
JUNE DREAMS
Outside the window the hemlock pine's
Branches are waving gently in a heat undulating
Breeze that is early summer.
Dreaming of Wings
I break the glass of the hour
and pour out the minutes
to sit at the feet of summer;
I, earth heavy and
Summers Afterglow
My shelves are filled with memories
Of summer's lovely days
And sealed up tight in shining jars
For winters
by Judy Furniss
Scorching hot summer in fallow land
Dust devil stirring dry loose sand
No sign of rain for a month or more
Cracking clay
Summer
It seemed like summer would never end
playing beneath the willow tree.
We'd dance among dandelions and
chase butterflies
