It depends which smartphone you're talking about.

As for a BlackBerry, give it a touchscreen (stylus or fingers), make it easier to figure out and use, and make it WORK! I know someone who has a BlackBerry and one day his internet browser just disappeared. For no reason. It was just there, then one day he noticed it was missing. He took it into U.S. Cellular, and they had no idea why. He called the company, and they finally told him how to fix it, after doing tons of long steps on the computer.

For Trios, they're already pretty good, just maybe make them a little more compatible, for example, with email exchange servers.

As for the iPhone, well, it's pretty awesome already. The one major flaw: typing. People say it's so hard to type. I personally don't agree, but if you do, remember this: I read a review about the iPhone. The writer said that after three days, it was so hard to type that he wanted to throw it out the window! However, after five, it was just as easy as typing on a BlackBerry or a Trio. Now, after that, it only gets easier and easier. You just have to get used to it.
