Flonase spray, a corticosteroid, reduces inflammation in the nasal passages. Sounds like a small thing but for some asthmatics and allergy sufferers, it's a godsend. Whether it's used during allergy flare ups or in a long-term maintenance program like the one I'm on, Flonase works to control the symptoms, not cure the condition, but that is quite a lot. To draw your fist free air after years of restricted breathing is wonderful.
Flonase is available by prescription only, so when you discuss it with your doctor, remember to bring along a list of all your other medications (including over the counter products, vitamins and supplements). Note any infections, glaucoma, nasal sores, surgeries or injuries. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or nursing and don't share this medicine with others. According to RX Prescription Solutions, it may affect the growth rate in some children so keep it in a secure place and only use it as prescribed by your physician.
Store Flonase at room temperature, away from heat or light. The Rite Aid pharmacy Use Guide suggests "priming" a new nasal sprayer with 3 to 4 pumps. They recommend shaking the bottle gently before each application. It's a good idea to keep a spare on hand and order a refill when your primary pump sprayer (120 sprays) is nearly used up. If you should lose your inhaler or if your refill is delayed, you won't interrupt your regimen.
It's important to maintain the routine as it takes a few days to begin feeling the benefits and once started, you should complete the course of treatment prescribed. If you miss a dose, don't panic. You can take it as soon as you realize your mistake, but don't try to double up to catch up. Keeping to your schedule is important for staying ahead of the symptoms and a key part of allergy and asthma management.
Most pharmacies include a leaflet with the prescription and I keep a copy of those instructions and prescription documents with my medication when I travel. The congestion relief Flonase provides for air travel as well as everyday challenges on the ranch is a blessing. I can truly say that when my Doctor prescribed Flonase and the insurance approved it, my life was dramatically changed for the better.
