Top 10 Johnny Depp characters

by Ashley Dawn Saulnier

Created on: July 03, 2007   Last Updated: October 11, 2011

One of the best actors in movie history is Johnny Depp. The reason he is such a genius is because none of the many diverse characters that he portrays run together like it unfortunately does for other actors. For example when I watch Jack Sparrow I see nowhere any of the character Willy Wonka. Or even with his more normal characters such as Gilbert Grape, I don't see Sam from Benny and Joon or J.M. Barrie from Finding Neverland.. Then when I watch Jennifer Aniston all I can see is Rachel Green, or John Travolta is Danny Zucko from Grease. So I will now show what I think are the top ten Depp characters.

10. Sands - Once Upon A Time in Mexico (2003)

Even though I love Sands, I had to put him in 10th place because let's face it, he's not as great as the rest. Sands is very sarcastic and somewhat of a bastard. He pretty much does what he wants and nobody stops him, except at the end when they rip his eyes out. Johnny Depp does a great job in this part but it's nothing extraordinary compared to other roles.

9. Sam- Benny and Joon (1993)

Sam is a character you can't help but fall in love with. He is a sweet, funny, charismatic man who is somewhat different than "regular" people. He models himself as his idol, silent movie comedian, Buster Keaton. Wherever he goes he is constantly showing off his talents to whoever is interested. He falls in love with Joon, a mentally ill woman that is the sister of the man taking care of him. Their relationship is sweet and affectionate, and Johnny does an excellent job playing a character of this nature.

8. Edward D. Wood Jr - Ed Wood (1994)

I won't lie to you, I haven't really fully watched this movie. I also don't know alot about Ed Wood. I will trust that his portrayal of this character is exact though, considering every other one of his characters are. Ed Wood deserves to be on this list because from what I did see of the movie, it was excellent and he just was so sweet and quiet at times and then crazy at others. How Depp depicted a man that was struggling with a great secret of transexuality was amazing and he is one of the characters that I won't forget.

7. Wade "Cry Baby" Walker - Cry Baby (1990)

Here is a movie that is so horrible it's hilarious. Just the type of movies Johnny loves. It gave him a chance to go against his character in 21 Jump Street because he was everything Tom Hanson wasn't. Johnny took the role and ran with it. At points in the movie he is so sincere you can't help but laugh. I really think he had a
